A Quadricentennial Legacy Grant from the CVNHP allowed Mountain Lake PBS to translate it's multifaceted media project, Dead Reckoning:Champlain in America to be the first bilingual, historically accurate, animated documentary on Samuel de Champlain. The documentary has introduced millions of PBS viewers in the United States and Canada to the compelling story of Champlain’s voyages. It is supplemented by educational media including an award-winning, bilingual, interactive website: http://www.champlaininamerica.org/fr/ that invites teachers, professors, students and potential visitors to take a virtual tour of the world in which Champlain traveled and lived. Translating the documentary into French aids attracting tourists to the Champlain Valley, and underscores the shared history of New York, Vermont and Quebec.
